Communication

I’ve read many times that communication is even more critical than hard skills. Over time, I keep seeing this proven true, hence below are some important insights about communication.

You’re good at communiction when

  • People stop asking you questions about the updates
  • The work you’ve been focusing on can be easily continued by anyone else
  • You’re comfortable with previous step and aren’t afraid that the work you’ve left off will freeze

People might struggle with communication when

  • They have problems acknowledging they are stuck on something
  • Not doing some prep before asking for help
  • Going too deep into describing things they’ve done that are not that relevant anymore

My personal DOs and DON’Ts

  • Focus on being a good writer
  • Leave as many details as possible
  • Keep only relevant details
    • It’s not about what you’ve done, but rather what was done to solve a problem and what’s left
    • Think of it as a set of action items wrapped into necessary context
  • Try to make your message engaging for readers
